Electronic Commerce
AVDA has been actively involved in supporting the exploration of the role of electronic commerce in animal health distribution, and to encourage the orderly development and implementation of practical industry EDI projects and systems. AVDA supports the adoption and use of the standard Health Industry Number (HIN) in electronic commerce within the animal health industry. AVDA holds a seat on the Board of Directors of the Health Industry Business Communications Council (HIBCC), which has developed and administers the HIN. AVDA works closely with the EDI Special Project administered by the Animal Health Institute, which has developed and is implementing an industry system for the daily transmittal of various types of sales information.
In the spring of 2000 AVDA established the AVDA IS User Group "to provide professional expertise in technology guidelines and e-commerce standards for the animal health industry through HIBCC-led processes." Supported by AVDA, the group is an open forum for all involved in the animal health industry.

Veterinary Compounding Brochure Now Available to AVDA Members
Representatives from the Animal Health Institute (AHI), American Veterinary Distributors Association (AVDA), and American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) have completed work on an informational brochure on veterinary compounding. To view a copy of the brochure, click here.
The purpose of the brochure is to better familiarize veterinarians and others in the veterinary supply channel (distributors, sales representatives, etc.) with regulations that apply to compounding. The brochure also differentiates between FDA approved drugs and compounded drugs; explains the specific circumstances under which veterinarians are legally permitted to utilize compounded drug products; and explains what practices are not permitted according to federal guidelines. Manufacturer and distributor sales representatives can use this brochure as a detail piece for veterinarians.
AVDA is making the brochure available to all of our members at no charge. You may order the brochure in quantities of 1000 maximum, per company. If you would like to order copies of the brochure, complete the attached order form and return it to AVDA Headquarters by fax to 443-640-1086.
