AVDA’s 2007 Annual Conference, held April 29 – May 1 at the Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort and Spa in Savannah, Georgia, was a huge success. Over 150 AVDA members and spouses attended this annual business meeting and networking event. Attendees came away with great take-home content from dynamic speakers on such topics as distributor profitability, how to compete in a global economy, how manufacturers and distributors can improve their relationships and techniques for remembering peoples names. AVDA Elects New President AVDA elected a new president and board of directors for 2007-2008. Bobby Mims of Merritt Veterinary Supply will be leading AVDA as president. Mims’ term as president comes on the heels of a successful conference in Savannah, Georgia where more than 150 industry representatives and spouses attended the annual event. DETAILS Connecting Great Ideas and Great People: Tucson to Host 2008 Annual Conference The theme of the 2008 AVDA Annual Conference to be held April 27 – 29 at the Loews Ventana Canyon Resort in Tucson, AZ is Connecting Great Ideas and Great People. The conference will connect great ideas and great people by mixing stimulating business sessions with unique networking opportunities, trademarks of AVDA meetings. DETAILS AVDA Presents 2006 Supplier Awards AVDA’s third annual Supplier Awards Ceremony was held on May 1, 2007 during the Annual Awards Banquet in Savannah, GA. Fort Dodge Animal Health received top honors for the second year in a row receiving the Supplier of the Year. DETAILS AVDA Presents Training Opportunities Year Round Several years ago, AVDA joined the Association Education Alliance (AEA) which brings over 40 distributor trade associations together to offer unique industry related training opportunities. DETAILS UID Announces 2008 Dates The University of Industrial Distribution (UID) will be offered March 2 – 5 in Indianapolis, Indiana at Indiana / Purdue University (IUPUI). AVDA is a proud co-sponsor of UID which is now in its 14th year. UID is a concentrated educational program focused on the unique needs of wholesale distributors. DETAILS All Sales Volume is Not Created Equal Sales solves all problems. Wait, make that sales solves most problems. Actually, sales solves a lot of problems, but creates a lot more. The understanding that “nothing happens until somebody sells something” causes otherwise rational individuals to undertake some bizarre sales-generating activities. It is enough to give sales a bad name. DETAILS PROFIT Survey to Return in 2008 One of the most important benefits AVDA members enjoy is the annual PROFIT Report. Conducted by Dr. Al Bates and the team at Profit Planning Group, the PROFIT Report is the best source for financial benchmarking information in the industry. Attendees at the annual Profit Report review held at the AVDA 2007 Annual Conference last April rated the session as one that delivered some of the best information about how to distributors can improve their business’ profitability by a series of 1% improvements. Vasquez, Chairman, President & CEO of Butler Animal Health Supply, Dublin, Ohio, was named winner of the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year® 2007 award in the South Central Ohio & Kentucky Corporation. DETAILS LEGAL UPDATE Supreme Court Approves Greater Control Over Minimum Resale Pricing In a sharply divided 5-4 decision, the U.S. Supreme Court has overruled its own 1911 decision in the Dr. Miles case and held that a manufacturer does not necessarily violate the antitrust laws by establishing a minimum resale price for its products and enforcing the policy by terminating a wholesaler-distributor or other reseller who sells below the minimum price.
