Manhattan, Kansas Home to New NBAF

The Department of Homeland Security recently announced they have unanimously selected Manhattan, Kansas, home of Kansas State University, for the new location of their National Bio-Agro Defense Facility (NBAF). Manhattan, Kansas, is the western-most anchor of the KC Animal Health Corridor, the world's largest concentration of animal health industry assets.

Following a 30-day waiting period, Manhattan, Kansas, officially will be announced as the new location for NBAF. Currently located on Plum Island outside of the New York City area, the facility conducts research on emerging zoonotic and animal diseases such as avian flu and Foot-and-Mouth Disease.

Manhattan, Kansas, was selected for the world-class expertise offered at Kansas State University's Biosecurity Research Institute and the tremendous base of animal vaccine development assets in the Corridor. The $451-million, 500,000-sq.-ft. facility will employ 250-350 researchers when completed.
